This Privacy Policy explains how Beyond The Subtext LLC, doing business as Subtext (“Subtext,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, and retains information when you use Subtext Decoder (“Decoder”). It applies only to Decoder and not to other Subtext websites, applications, event services, or products unless they link to and expressly adopt this Policy.
When you complete Decoder, we collect:
The current Decoder experience does not ask you to provide your name, email address, phone number, login credentials, Google account information, or other direct identifying information.
Decoder creates a random submission identifier so a quiz submission can be associated with optional accuracy feedback. The identifier is not designed by Subtext to identify you.
Decoder uses Google Firebase Firestore and Google Cloud-related infrastructure. When your device connects to Decoder, this infrastructure may process technical information needed to deliver, secure, and maintain the service, such as IP address, browser or device information, request headers, requested URLs, timestamps, and system logs. Subtext’s current application code does not use analytics services, advertising trackers, browser fingerprinting, or application cookies.
Decoder stores limited information on your device so you can view recent Decoder results and so the service can function reliably. This may include a local session identifier, recent result archetype and timestamp, and any accuracy rating you submit. Firebase may also use browser database storage for offline caching and synchronization. This information generally remains until you use the app’s clear-history function or clear the site data in your browser.
We use the information described above to:
Decoder uses deterministic, client-side scoring. We do not send your Decoder responses to a generative AI model, and we do not use them to train a generative AI model.
Decoder is designed for communication facilitation and networking. Subtext does not use individual Decoder responses or results to make employment, hiring, promotion, performance, compensation, termination, credit, housing, insurance, education-admission, or other consequential decisions. Event organizers and employers are not permitted to use Decoder for those purposes.
We may disclose information in the following limited circumstances:
We do not sell individual Decoder responses or results. We do not use them for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising.
We retain response-level Decoder submissions for up to 12 months after collection for evaluation, validation, security, and product-improvement purposes. At the end of that period, we delete the response-level records or transform them into aggregate or deidentified information that is not reasonably intended to identify an individual. We may retain aggregate or deidentified statistics for longer, including indefinitely, where permitted by law.
Information stored locally on your device remains until you use Decoder’s clear-history function or clear your browser’s site data. Technical logs maintained by service providers may be retained according to their applicable service settings and policies.
We may retain information longer when reasonably necessary to comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or address security incidents.
Subtext is based in the United States, and Decoder information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from those where you live. Where required, we use contractual or other measures intended to protect information processed by service providers.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect Decoder information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You may decline to use Decoder or decline to provide the optional accuracy rating. You can remove local result history using Decoder’s clear-history function or your browser’s site-data controls.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, to withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis for processing, or to make a privacy complaint. To submit a request, contact privacy@beyondthesubtext.com. We may need information sufficient to verify and locate the relevant record. Because Decoder does not ask for direct identifying information, we may be unable to locate a specific submission or verify that it belongs to you. We will not use that limitation to avoid a request we can reasonably fulfill.
Canadian users may contact our privacy lead at privacy@beyondthesubtext.com with questions or complaints. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the applicable provincial privacy authority.
Decoder is intended for professional networking and group experiences and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through Decoder, contact privacy@beyondthesubtext.com.
We may update this Policy to reflect changes to Decoder, our practices, or applicable law. We will post the updated Policy with a revised effective date. If required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before a material change applies.
